Parlando runs on your Mac. It has no account, no analytics and no server that sees what you say. This page says exactly where your audio and text can go, and when.
The short version
- No account. You never sign up or log in to anything we run.
- No analytics, no tracking. Parlando doesn’t measure how you use it. Neither does this website: no cookies, no analytics scripts, no fonts or scripts from other sites.
- On your Mac by default. With a local engine (Parakeet or Whisper) your voice is transcribed on your Mac and goes nowhere.
- Cloud only when you choose it, with your own key. Data then goes straight from your Mac to that provider. It never passes through us.
What stays on your Mac
- Your recordings and transcripts (History), with the audio unless you set Parlando to delete it after 14, 30 or 90 days.
- Settings, Voices, Dictionary and Snippets.
- API keys, in the macOS Keychain.
- Insights, counted from your History on your Mac.
These files live in your user Library, under Application Support/Aria (the folder keeps the app’s earlier name). Delete that folder and they’re gone. We have no copy.
When data leaves your Mac
Only when you add a provider’s API key and use a feature that needs it:
| Feature | What is sent | To |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud transcription, live text | Your audio | The engine’s provider |
| AI Voices (cleanup and rewriting) | The transcript and the Voice’s instructions | Your AI model’s provider |
| Command Mode | The selected text and your spoken instruction | Your AI model’s provider |
| Ask your history | The transcripts that match your question | Your AI model’s provider, named in the Ask panel |
Each provider handles that data under its own terms and privacy policy, with you as its customer. Parlando talks only to the ones you set up:
- Anthropic
- OpenAI (transcription, OpenAI Live and AI models)
- Google Gemini (Gemini Live and AI models)
- Groq
- Mistral
- xAI
- DeepSeek
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Generative AI
Dictation with a local engine and on-device cleanup uses none of them.
Other connections Parlando makes
- Model downloads. When you download a local model, Parlando fetches it from the model’s public host. Nothing personal is sent.
- Updates. Parlando checks our update server for new versions. The server sees the request, as any web server does, including your IP address and the app version. Not your content.
- Licence. When you activate or deactivate a licence, Parlando sends the licence key and a random identifier for that Mac, so we can count activations. Nothing else.
Buying Parlando
Payments are handled by Polar (polar.sh), which acts as the seller of record and collects your name, email address, billing country and payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive your name, email address, country and order details, to send your licence, answer support requests and issue refunds. We keep them as long as tax law requires.
This website
parlando.app is a static site. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Our host keeps standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested) for a short time, for security and to keep the site running. Your choice of light or dark appearance is saved in your browser only.
If you write to support, we use your message and address to answer you, and delete the conversation when it’s no longer needed.
Permissions
Parlando asks macOS for the microphone (it listens only while you dictate) and Accessibility (to paste the result into the app you’re in, and to read a selection for Command Mode). It doesn’t log keystrokes, read other apps’ windows, or record in the background.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what we hold about you (for buyers: the order details above), have it corrected or deleted, and complain to a data protection authority; in the Czech Republic that is the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů. Write to support@parlando.app. The data controller is named on the imprint.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be here with a new date. If Parlando ever starts sending something new, it will tell you in the app before it does.
